Retail crime: the challenge facing UK businesses
Security continues to be a major consideration for retailers and other customer-facing businesses.
The Association of Convenience Stores' 2026 Crime Report recorded 5.8 million incidents of shop theft over the latest year, alongside more than 950,000 incidents of verbal abuse.
Retailers also spent a record £313 million on crime prevention and detection, investing in measures including CCTV, security tagging, protective screens and AI-powered monitoring.
The figures demonstrate how businesses are increasingly taking a broader approach to security protecting their people, premises, stock and assets.
For businesses handling cash, secure cash storage and collection can form another important part of that wider security strategy.
